Product Description

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a 10-minute exfoliating facial.

With 30% Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (Glycolic/Lactic/Tartaric/Citric), 2% Beta Hydroxyl Acid (Salicylic Acid), Hyaluronic Acid Crosspolymer, Vitamin B5, Black Carrot and Tasmanian Pepperberry.

Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) exfoliate the skin's topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) also exfoliate the skin with an extended function to help clear pore congestion. This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines with continued use.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. This formula is further supported with a crosspolymer form of hyaluronic acid for comfort, Vitamin B5 to assist healing and black carrot as an antioxidant.

This pH of this formula is approximately 3.6. Glycolic Acid, the primary AHA used in the formula, has a pKa of 3.6 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximising effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

Alcohol-free, nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan.

Directions

Use ideally in the PM, no more frequently than twice per week. Clean face and wait for skin to dry. Do not use on wet skin. Apply evenly across face and neck using your fingertips. Leave on for no more than 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid the eye contour and contact with eyes both during application and rinse off. This low-viscosity solution is intended to be used as a masque. Do not leave on for longer than 10 minutes. If persistent irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.

This formula contains a very high concentration of free acids. We recommend use only if you are an experienced user of acid exfoliation and your skin is not sensitive. Contraindications: this formula should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. Use only as directed. Contact of the product with the skin must be of limited frequency or duration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! It is one of the TO bestseller for a reason. This peeling solution represents a potent cocktail of glycolic, lactic, tartaric, salicylic and citric acids. TO offers us possibility to use such a product and mentioned that it’s “an advanced-level exfoliating peel”. It is expected that you should do at least small research and understand how it works, why it is needed for you and what can be in side effects if you have sensitive skin or compromised barrier. If you do not what to do this research, it is better to proceed to some ready “brightening creams” in colorful boxes with colorful price tags. Somebody can be scared that it contains 30% AHA. Typically, acids with concentration above 20% are utilized in beauty clinics with strict protocols. However, as it was discussed in some beauty communities, one can see in the full list of ingredients there is “Sodium Hydroxide” in the third place. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) has a high pH of 13–14 and, thus, neutralize acids, so final acid concentration can be much lower. Perhaps, it is made as a “fool-proof” solution for users who want to use advance-level actives but do not care about details. I read reviews to this product and was shocked that some people use it for several days in a row or multiple times a week -- with 30% AHA it would be very painful ;) And again, it should be considered as a chemical exfoliator, not a product for “skin glow” (go for VitC or products with propanediol in ingredients). So, you should understand skin renewal cycle and do not stress you skin and its normal 24/7 work -- “What? She wants exfoliation again?!!” Also, it is recommended to use it once a week – this recommendation assumes that this product is the only chemical exfoliator in your routine. If you use glycolic toner or lactic/mandelic/other acids on your face during a week, it means that you do not need to use this peeling solution too, as it can be too much for your skin. It is better to prioritize one acid/exfoliator and use it solo in some repeatable patterns (once in 5 or 10/15 days depending on the skin reaction). Also, red color helps you to control where you already applied product and how thick is the layer. BTW, I found that thin layer application works better for me than thick ones. I use this peeling solution for more than one year. It is the TO product with direct acid that my skin prefers more. After couple of uses, I saw that greyish tone went away. It does not help much with hyperpigmentation, but it works as an important element in my skin routine. For many months, my skin tolerates it very well with 10-15 min exposure once a week. This fall I added ascorbic acids and retinoids several days a week, so skin started to be very sensitive and reactive to strong actives, I have to reduce time to 7-8 min and increase time interval to 10-14 days. So, be patient and see skin reaction, especially if your routine includes other strong actives that have accumulative and prolonged action. After use, you can see “acid glow” skin effect, so you need to calm your skin – use some simple soothing toner and light moisturizers. Don’t use other strong actives, serums after it during that night, let your skin restore. Don’t forget about sunscreen during day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. ❤️❤️❤️ Loved it. In Srilanka most of the ordinary products are fake. And after receiving it from the original website, I realized that I was using fake products and it was horrible. I thought ordinary was not worth the hype. I’m so glad y’all ship to srilanka. And pls boycott these fake products if possible.

How many drops should you use when applying?

Asked by: Sophie
I don't count drops but instead I pipette it straight on the face making 2 inch lines... one on the forehead, one diagonally down each cheek, on vertically down the nose, one across the chin and a bit above my lip. I think it works out about two pipettes full. I then gently rub in circular motions ensuring not to get any under the eye area. Sorry for the bad explanation... I hope that makes sense a little bit!

Hi, Can i use a hydrating product after the peeling? Thanks, Irati

Asked by: Irati
Hi, When I use this I follow it with a hydrating toner (I use Elemis Apricot toner), then a hyaluronic acid serum (I use The Ordinary). I leave that for 10 minutes then apply a moisturiser (with an SPF if it's daytime). Hope this helps :)

Can I use lactic acid or retinoid after using this? Thanks

Asked by: Natasha
Hi, Thanks for reaching out to us. The brand advise the following: "A customer can use the The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and then they should be able to use any of our Granactive Retinoid formulas afterwards without any problems. If they were using a retinol, it might be advisable to not use them on the same night just in case they experience irritation. We wouldn’t recommend using the lactic acid at all with the AHA peel as they are both exfoliating options and doing so risks over-exfoliating the skin, so we would recommend to use EITHER the peel OR the lactic acid formula." I hope this helps! Thanks, Chloe - Beauty Expert

My hand have some pigmentationnon their and have slightly beckme damadhed because im always cleaning and working.. can inuse this on my hands

Asked by: Bushra
Hi, Thanks for reaching out to us. The brand advises the following: "This product is not officially tested for use on the hands, so it should be used on this area at the customers discretion. As it hasn't been tested for use on the hands, we cannot claim that this product is safe for use on that area, however, logically it should be fine as skin on our hands tends to be thicker and less sensitive that skin on our face." I hope this helps! Thanks, Chloe - Beauty Expert
