Product Description

What we say Actives, retinol, retinoids, concentration, 2%, terms that can be quite intimidating. We've got you! The Ordinary landed in the beauty world last year with a simple approach and ground-breaking formulas. Next-generation retinoid active technologies have been shown to achieve better reduction in signs of ageing than retinol all without irritation. The Advanced Retinoid 2% inparticular can to be applied to the face as part of your regular skincare regime. PLUS, it is Alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and cruelty-free.
The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% - a stable emulsion of next-generation forms of retinoid. This formulation combines two forms of next-generation retinoid actives in a combined concentration of 2% by weight. These two actives are: - Solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate is a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of ageing than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid; - A sustained-delivery form of pure retinol in a protective capsule system which supports both the delivery and the effect of Solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. Both forms of retinoid used avoid the irritation associated with retinoid (including retinol) use while delivering better visible results against signs of ageing. Alcohol-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gentle retinoid with moisture! TLDR: Doesn't irritate my skin at all, but could be just a little stronger. Make a 5% version please!! My skin looks better than when I don't use any retinoids & it doesn't seem to break me out like the squalane based serum. The few pimples I do get seem to take longer to heal though. I'm in my early 40's with sensitive, dry, & acne prone (mostly hormonal) skin - which is really difficult to work with! Most products I try either make me break out or are too drying. I was using adapalene gel for a couple of years and was happy with the results other than the continued low level dryness and peeling I had to deal with. Also while adapalene is a retinoid, it's more for acne and doesn't do as much for fine lines as other retinoids. I am reaching a point in my life where lines are more of a concern, so I wanted to try something different. I have used TO squalane based serums in the past and those always broke me out and made me feel oily rather than hydrated, so I wasn't interested in those formulations. This one seems to be my Goldilocks serum so far, not drying and not greasy, wonderful! I use moisturizer over it but I almost feel like I could get away without it in the summer which is unheard of for my skin. My only complaint is that the pimples I do get seem to linger longer than when I used adapalene, and if I try to spot treat them with BP cream (tiny tiny dot!) I'll get an irritated rough spot that lasts for weeks which didn't happen before. I think a higher concentration of GR in this formulation would be my Holy Grail, this one is so close but not quite there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Product Quality I have been using this product for years. I usually purchase a couple bottles at a time. I recently bought this product and as seen on several other review pictures it was separated (clear liquid on the bottom and cream on top). In all my years I have never seen this before. I did shake the bottle before use but the serum was watery. The quality of the product was not the same, for a person who have been using this for years I am so disapponted they would change the formula or cut quality. This product use to be thick and creamy not the watery consistency it feels like now. Very, very disappointed. The original founder never wanted to compromise the quality of his products, he said this many times in several videos. STOP cutting corners and product quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent gentle yet effective retinol Love this gentle retinol. I've been using this for years and with product I noticed a decrease in fine lines and overall skin texture. I love that it's so gentle, non irritating and doesn't break me out. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value and quick result This is my favorite product from ordinary series. Quick absorption, smooth lines, moisturizing serum / lotion. The result is apparent after one week of application. I use it as a serum after toner and before moisturizer at night. So reasonable.

Hi there, can I use this to treat new stretch marks? thanks!

Asked by: sarah
Hi, Thanks for reaching out to us. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using this on your stretch marks as you won't gain much benefit, however using Rose Hip Oil/Rose Hip Seed Oil on stretchmarks (new and old) has been proven to reduce and improve the appearance of them. Take a look at The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 30ml, which is designed for use on the face and if you like the sound of it, please contact us on beautyexperts@feelunique.com so we can help you with finding some rose hip seed oil for use on the body. I hope this helps! Thanks, Chloe - Beauty Expert

hello, i have very deep lines under my eye even though i'm only 24!!! can i use this under eye to treat these lines?

Asked by: Yi-Hsuan
Hi, The Ordinary Advanced Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion 30ml shoud never be used around the eye area as it contains retinoids. You should never put retinoids/ retinol near the eyes as this is a concentrated form of vitamin c. Vitamin c is a natural and potent exfoliant and the skin around your eyes is very delicate and thin. Another otpion is NUXE Contour Des Yeux Prodigieux Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Eye Cream, it hydrates, revives and fights against signs of ageing by protecting the skin from oxidative stress caused by daily aggression. Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Hi what’s the difference between the ordinary retinol 1% in squalane and the granactive retinoid is the retinoid means retinol ? Thanks

Asked by: Nadia
Hi, Retinol contains a lower concentration than retinoid, if you have sensitive skin, I would recommend a retinoid as it can be less irritating. If you'd like to know the difference between the ordinary retinol 1% in squalane and the granactive retinoid, please could you email us at beautyexperts@feelunique.com with the full name of the granactive retinoid as there are quite a few granactive retinoid's from the Ordinary. Thanks, Jess - Beauty Expert

Does this help with facial scarring e.g. acne scars?

Asked by: Lynn
Hi, The Ordinary Advanced Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion is really recommended for anti aging. However, it has additional benefits, when spread on the skin, retinoids can unclog pores, allowing other medicated creams and gels to work better. They also reduce acne outbreaks by preventing dead cells from clogging pores. Retinoid helps with cell renewal which can reduce the visibility of scars. When using a retinoid, we always recommend applying in the evening, and introduce gradually 3 times a week. Always use an SPF during the day. The Ordinary do offer lots of products to help with acne scars, please contact us on Beautyexperts@feelunique.com for the details of these and how to use them! Thanks, Lydia - Beauty Expert
